Liberians in Manchester Celebrate End-of-Year Gathering

Manchester, UK – The Liberian community in Manchester – United Kingdom came together in grand style on December 21, 2024, to celebrate the end of the year. Held in Manchester, this vibrant and colorful event brought together Liberians from various cities across the UK to mark the occasion in a uniquely Liberian style.

The primary purpose of the gathering was to foster unity and fellowship among Liberians from diverse cultural, religious, and ethnic backgrounds. The event served as a platform for attendees to celebrate their shared identity and heritage while promoting togetherness and harmony within the community.

The event was organized by the Manchester Gentlemen, a prominent Liberian community organization in Manchester, in collaboration with its sister organization, Kou-Kai-Pai, and other Liberian groups in Manchester, including the Liberian Mandingo Association UK and the Bolton Liberian Organization. Financial support for the event came from generous contributions by individuals and partner organizations.

The gathering was graced by a host of notable representatives from the Union of Liberian Organizations in the United Kingdom (ULOUK). These included:

  • Mr. Anthony Kollie – President of ULOUK
  • Mr. Joe Sithole – Vice President of ULOUK
  • Ms. Anita Tweh – AGM Chair of ULOUK
  • Dr. Emmanuel D. Lah – General Secretary of ULOUK

Also in attendance were other distinguished leaders and representatives from various Liberian organizations, including:

  • Mr. Afin Saboh – Newly elected President of the Liberian Mandingo Association
  • Mr. Phamollie Jabateh – President of the Manchester Mandingo Association
  • Mrs. Vista Mamie Vowal – Acting Chair of the Grand Gedeh Association
  • Elder Morris Dorley
  • Mr. Sam Gissie

Leadership and members of Kou-Kai-Pai, Manchester Gentlemen, and the Bolton Liberian Organization were also fully represented, underscoring the community’s unity and commitment to collaboration.

The program was lively and full of entertainment, creating a joyous atmosphere for attendees. Speeches delivered by various leaders and the guest speaker emphasized a central theme: the importance of setting aside individual and personal differences to embrace togetherness, celebrate diversity, and promote the collective interests of Liberia.

The speakers also advocated for making such gatherings more frequent rather than occasional, highlighting the value of consistent engagement in strengthening bonds within the community.

The Liberians in Manchester End-of-Year Gathering was more than a celebration; it was a powerful reminder of the strength found in unity and shared identity. The event left attendees inspired to continue building bridges and fostering relationships that transcend individual differences.

The success of this event stands as a testament to the remarkable dedication, passion, and teamwork of the organizing committee members, who selflessly took time out of their busy schedules to plan, design, and decorate the hall with exceptional creativity and care.

But our warmest and most profound appreciation goes to two extraordinary individuals whose efforts went above and beyond: Mr. Benjamin B. Bartee (Program Chair-Manchester Gentlemen) and Mrs. Tracy Quaye (Kou-Kai-Pai).

Mr. Bartee’s exemplary leadership as Program Chair was nothing short of inspiring. He was the first to arrive and the last to leave during both preparation and cleanup, ensuring every detail was perfectly executed. His unwavering commitment, tireless energy, and meticulous attention to detail left an indelible mark on the success of this event.

Equally exceptional was Mrs. Quaye’s remarkable dedication and coordination. Her ability to work seamlessly with other organizations and her unrelenting pursuit of perfection ensured that the occasion was extraordinary. She invested her time and energy with boundless passion, setting a shining example of excellence and selflessness.

Our heartfelt thanks also go to the Manchester Gentlemen for their generous financial contributions, the Kou-Kai-Pai Women for preparing the sumptuous and unforgettable meals, and the Mandingo Association for providing drinks, water, and other essential contributions and to all other individuals and organizations that contributed. Together, your combined efforts created a truly memorable occasion filled with joy, laughter, and togetherness.
